State Law Requires
- That all dogs and cats in Bay County be licensed starting at the age of 4 months.
- That you provide proper food, water, shelter and sanitary conditions for all pets.
- Licenses must be renewed every one to three years, depending on your rabies vaccination.
- Dogs and cats to vaccinated against rabies by the age of four months.
- All animal bites and scratches that draw blood must be reported.
- Report animal cruelty.
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
- Stray animals brought to the shelter without a collar are held for four days before being set up for adoption. Animals with a collar are held for seven days, as per state law.
- Animals surrendered by their owner are available for immediate disposition.
- Dogs, cats, and ferrets adopted from the Shelter are mandated to be sterilized per the adoption contract.
- This shelter does NOT sell animals for research.
- Euthanizing is done by a lethal injection that makes the animal "go to sleep".
- This shelter accepts donations. Common items are old towels & blankets, dog & cat food, kitty litter, bleach, newspapers, detergent, fabric softener, and dog & cat treats or toys.
Important Tips
- Check your puppy's collar often; your puppy grows quickly and will need frequent adjustments.
- Generic pet foods may NOT provide proper nutrition for your pet.
- Puppies and kittens NEED their first vaccinations at 6 weeks of age.
- Please spay and neuter your pets to reduce over population and the spread of disease.
