The Spotted Lanternfly is an invasive insect native to Asia that arrived to the United States in 2024, but not in Michigan until 2022. Currently, they have been found in Monroe and Oakland counties, but not Bay County.

This insects likes to feed on grapevines, stone fruits, and certain hardwood trees. Their favorite host, the Tree of Heaven, is a non-native tree that has naturalized itself in Michigan, and is the Spotted Lanternfly's primary source to feed on.
