Year-Round Activities
Pinconning Park offers a variety of seasonal activities. Bird watchers flock to our 206-acre nature preserve to observe a wide variety of bird species, including migrating waterfowl. An abundance of wildflowers takes control of the park, from early spring through late autumn. Take your time to enjoy the view of all of the wildlife and beauty from vantage points high and low. Three observation towers, two observation decks, five miles of trails and boardwalks, and a floating fishing dock are all within the park and nature preserve. All are ADA accessible. The newest tower, erected on the shoreline, is the only lookout on the entire Saginaw Bay! On a clear day, one can see Pt. AuGres, across the bay to "Michigan's Thumb", the mouth of the Saginaw River at Bay City, and everything in between. The view is grand!!
The fall duck and goose hunting season also attracts visitors from near and far to Pinconning Park and the Saginaw Bay. The bay is also well known for its spectacular summer walleye and perch fishing. The spring and fall seasons are incredible times for fishing, as many species, including perch, bass, pike, crappie, bluegill, and catfish, move into the shallow waters of the park. A boat launch is available mid-spring through the end of duck season.
There are two playground areas in the day-use area. Enjoy a family picnic while the children play on the playground equipment. Hot dogs, burgers, or the fresh catch of the day can be cooked on one of the many BBQ grills spread throughout the day-use area.
During the late spring and summer months, Pinconning Park offers kayak rentals located on a maintained sandy beach with a changing station and a rinse-off shower. Perfect to catch a bit of exercise and relaxation.
Winter brings ice fishing. Access is available right off the park shoreline with a plowed, secure parking lot with clean outhouse facilities. Many winter visitors bring their ATVs or snowmobiles and stay in one of our heated cabins. Reserve one early; once safe ice has formed, they fill up fast.
