- Bay County 911/Central Dispatch Director Ryan Gale provided an operations update for the Board of Commissioners. In 2024, Bay County 911/Central Dispatch received over 174,000 calls, which equals nearly 477 calls per day. Overtime usage was down 53% and staffing levels were nearly full throughout the year which helped to improve the morale of staff. Many major incidents were handled over the year including multiple structure fires, water rescues, and severe weather events. New tools and technology were also introduced in the office to improve communication and efficiency.

 

- The Board passed a resolution proclaiming February as American Heart Month in Bay County. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death and disability worldwide, impacting millions of families each year. With the passing of this resolution, board members hope to help educate the public on how to prevent cardiovascular disease in our community. - The Board approved the application/acceptance of the 2025 DNR Marine Safety Program Grant submitted by Bay County Sheriff Troy Cunningham. This program helps to fund the purchase of equipment and the hiring of seasonal employees during the summer recreational boating season.

 

- An agreement between Bay County and the Essexville-Hampton Public Schools was approved for swim lessons for children and open swim times for the community. In 2024, nearly 150 children took part in swim lessons funded by this program.

- A resolution honoring the late Mark Allen Smith was presented to his family for his dedication to serving veterans. Mark was a longtime member of the Bay County Honor Guard, delivered meals to homebound veterans, and ran a food pantry for local veterans. His contributions to our community have left a lasting mark and will continue to help many veterans in the future.

 

- The Delta College Women’s soccer team was honored for having won the 2025 NJCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship in Batavia, New York. This is the second time (the first being in 2020) the team has won the national championship. This amazing group of women finished the season 15-0, had an 88-4 goal differential, and ended their season off with a 3-0 win in the national championship game against Mohawk Valley Community College. Congratulations on a great season!

 

- Region 7 Area Agency on Aging provided an informational presentation on their agency and how it benefits our community/region. Region 7 AAA serves a 10-county area and provides funding to help supplement local millage programs. They also help citizens get in touch with programs such as Meals on Wheels, Medicare, and much more. For more information on Region 7 AAA visit https://region7aaa.org/
