Bay County Mosquito Control uses an Integrated Mosquito Management (IMM) approach to mosquito control where a combination of methods is utilized to reduce the level of mosquitoes – both nuisance and disease vectors. The majority of our resources are used to prevent mosquito problems before they occur. This includes controlling mosquitoes in the larval stage, dumping water from containers that breed mosquitoes, and holding community scrap tire drives to eliminate tires as breeding habitats.
Control strategies are chosen based on their efficacy, health effects, ecological effects and cost effectiveness. The table below lists the products used to treat mosquitoes in Bay County, which includes the natural bacterial products Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis - VectoBac®, Bacillus sphaericus - VectoLex®, Saccharopolyspora spinosad - Natular™ products, and the insect growth regulator methoprene - Altosid P35. All products are registered by the U.S. EPA and are applied in strict conformance with label requirements.
